238 DEAR DIARY, DAY TWO…

Dear Diary,

On day two, we decided to walk into town, which was only a mile or so away.  What we couldn’t see from the map was that it was also a mile or so down in altitude - our hotel was at the top of a massive rocky spur that dominates the city.

We made it down the trail, passing people coming the other way in full hiking gear, but ended up on the wrong side of the river, which gave us a chance to explore the city before heading back to the right side for a delicious, cooling ice cream.

We explored the ancient city centre and went looking for a traditional Belgian meal, but ended up in an Italian restaurant instead.  After further exploration, we took a cable car up to the famous Citadel.

Later that night, we met up with our fellow rally drivers, some already in full fancy dress. A beautiful medieval Belgian square, illuminated by two blokes in inflatable dinosaur outfits, as they pass Tintin and some Mr Men with really offensive names. Makes you proud to be British.

Then it was back to the hotel to pack, ready to start the rally proper and say goodbye to beautiful Belgium before heading to Freiburg in Germany.

Yours,

Rob
