So now we have the official route from the organisers. It works out to about 750 miles to complete the journey, roughly 4 hours driving per day - not too arduous, especially if the drive is broken up with stunning views and delicious lunches. But there is the little matter of getting to the start.
The official rally start is in Namur, Belgium. A quick look on Google Maps shows that this is approximately 500 miles from my house - 500 miles…before we get to the start! Head from Liverpool down to Birmingham, around London, and then head to the south coast. A quick trip in the Chunnel, and we are in France. Then it is into Belgium and to the start.

The app estimates it will take us 8 hours to make it to the start, double what we will be doing each day. The hope is that the adrenaline of our convoy of little cars heading out on a great adventure will keep us going, but it is a concern.
We may need to investigate an overnight stop somewhere along the route, but that adds expense and requires more time off work.
Something to consider.
