33 CALL ME A KUGA...

After a few quiet drinks the other night, I was convinced Richie was not interested in completing the rally in an Abarth.  It doesn't matter what seats are installed; he wouldn't travel to Monaco in a tiny, impractical city car.  His day-to-day driver needed to be replaced before he could think about buying anything else.  Fair enough.

We were down to three teams, and one of them - Fauxrrari - may also drop out.  So, it is just Dirty Martini and Just Please Squint.  We will still have a ball; it's a shame others couldn't join.

A couple of days later, from nowhere, Richie sends us a picture of his new steed, a lovely Ford Kuga in gorgeous black, with the words "We have our Rally Car xx" underneath. This is followed by "Just need ideas to customise it now." Oh hello! We are on again!

My first thought was to go with Rachel's idea of the A-Team Van, I replied:

"Make some red stripes for the side, make some that go up the side of the back window to the roof, get some 2nd hand wheels, spray them red, put them all on the car.

It's a Ford Kuga. Call yourself 'The K-Team'"

It's not too shabby for something off the top of my head, plus the makeover would be relatively cheap (I did some quick searching on eBay; a set of decent-looking alloys for the Kuga cost about £200 with tyres included).  The car should be mechanically sound, so they will be good to go quickly and easily.

I'm sad that it isn't an Abarth, but I'm glad that Richie and Rachel will potentially be travelling with us.  Even if they don't drive, they will go to the villa, I sweetened the deal by sending the blog post 'VILLA AWAY' to them with a note saying, "To try and tempt you, the image used for the post is of an actual villa in Les Issambres, in the actual South of France, looking out at the actual Med!!! ;)"
