I told Carl about getting an impact wrench to help when we spray the alloys. After a few seconds, he piped up that he already had one. It came as part of a twin pack with a cordless drill, but he never had the need for one; he has now! The poor thing will be working hard over the next six months!!!
I spoke with him and suggested it would be a good idea to bring it with us when we make the trip. He concurred. I also suggested bringing at least one spare alloy with us, as the cars come with an emergency foam kit because there is no space in the boot, even for a space saver. Again, he concurred. It is a shame Richie didn’t go for the van option. It looks like we are going to be carrying a fair bit of kit!

Talking of kit, we got on to the subject of walkie-talkies, and Carl went off down the rabbit hole talking about the kit he used to use in his previous job.
It suddenly got very techie, talking about bands and frequencies. I showed him the Motorola devices I mentioned elsewhere, and Carl said, “Oh yeah, they will do!”
Carl and I agreed on many things, which is always a worry. It didn’t last long, though! Carl has made a few bids on a set of alloys on eBay, trying to shave a few quid off the asking price. The seller clearly has had enough and told him they were sold, but I found them, and Carl is back to harassing the seller! I said the wheels were worth the price; just pay the man! Queue a stream of obscenities and arguments. Ah, that is better!
