With Richie onboard and Rachel desperately wanting to make the journey in an A-Team van, thoughts have turned to how we can convert their lovely Ford Kuga into a GMC Vandura. The stripes are relatively straightforward, but the wheels need a little thought.
Ideally, they would do what I have done: buy a set of spare alloys, refurbish them, and then give them a couple of coats of alloy paint. This is an utterly over-the-top solution, so we have been looking at more cost-effective methods to achieve the look they want.

Richie was checking to see if you can fit wheel trims over alloys. You can’t, but you can modify them by removing the protruding parts on the back and attaching them with cable ties - it looks like we could be breaking out the Dremel!
It is much easier - and cheaper - to spray a plastic wheel trim than a second-hand wheel, which then requires a good tyre to make a 2500-mile trip to the Med and back.
Carl found another solution, a product called Wrapper Removable Spray Paint. It looks like a regular rattle can and works the same way, too, but the paint that comes out is infused with a rubber solution. This means it can be quickly peeled off, returning whatever was sprayed to its original colour - pretty smart. It costs about £60 for four cans, enough for each wheel.
These are some good options to consider. I’ll keep searching eBay for alloys, though, just in case!
