Check me out; I can use an electric screwdriver! I took the old Welsh plates off, used them as a template, marked the holes up and then used some self-boring number plate screws to create the holes in my new plates. Not only did I not screw it up (pun intended), but I fitted them too like a real man!
It is the first bit of DIY on the new car. I know it is baby steps, but I’m really pleased. In the future, there are more jobs I need to tackle, like replacing the hinge pin in the door handle. It is starting to loosen, and I know from experience that it will snap one day. I will replace this in our other car, too.

I also need to fit some new speakers in the back as the ones I have now are bust, and the farting noise they make when playing anything with a heavy bass line is making my teeth itch.
I’ve seen a video of this procedure. It involves open car surgery. The back seats and panels need to come out, obviously. Some wire splicing may also be necessary.
After that, I think there is nothing left for me to do. The exhaust needs replacing, but that is something for a mechanic with ramps and good access.
I’ve found an OEM unit for £450, which is a straight replacement, and a Sportex unit for £260. Both have advantages. The first makes the car stock, while the second is cheaper and apparently makes the car louder. Louder sounds like a nice modification to me. I’m just worried about it passing an MOT, so I will need to do some research before I press buy.
