121 CASTROL MY BEATING HEART...

I’m having a wobble! My head is being turned by awesome Castrol Oil-sponsored Toyota’s. For months, I have been unshakable in my desire to create a tiny Martini Racing Lancia Delta tribute from our Abarth, but now, I’m not so sure.
It all started with me reminiscing over the fantastic cars featured in the Sega Rally and Colin McRae WRX games, the awesome Celica and the unstoppable Corolla. Then I read a Top Gear article about the most iconic cars from Gran Turismo games, past and present, and the cover picture they used was the Castrol Supra GT (see below).
Then there was the Teeny Tiny Tom’s IQ which I featured elsewhere on the blog, a product from the creative minds at GB Wraps. It was an exercise in what was possible with a strong theme and some creative thinking. Oh, and how did I nearly forget the GR86 Rally Concept? White cars, green and red livery, stunning.
I did some digging and found loads of Castrol-sponsored Abarths. The pictures looked a little weird, though; it took me a while to realise they were slot cars (Scalextric to you and me). The source doesn’t matter; the result is cracking, although not perfect for me.

I think it looks great in green but getting the same effect would involve wrapping the car, which is out of the question.
So, could the white theme (right) be modified to make it look a bit more interesting? Definitely.
A green bonnet with a red border that then ‘wrapped’ around the side of the car all the way around to cover the top of the boot. The Castrol logo on the side with the race number picked out in white on a black square. A list of the minor sponsors down the side where the door meets the front wing. I think it would look great. We could even think about a whole roof sticker in green if we have time!
It might be possible to mock something up before committing to a theme. I’d also need to develop a funny/appropriate team name. Hmmm, leave it with me…
